The biggest Newark papers are the Newark Daily Advertiser (19th century) the Newark News (also known as the Newark Evening News or Newark Sunday News, 1883-1972) and the Star Ledger (became the largest paper after the News). The Newark Library has a near-complete run of all three papers.Microfilmed papers are not indexed or full-text searchable. Ronald L. Rice was the map archivist of the Canal Society of New Jersey when he donated this material in 2022. Rice has a long-standing interest in the history of the Morris Canal, which ran through Northern New Jersey for 102 miles for a century, until being decommissioned in 1924.Rice conducts walking tours of the former canal path. Much of this material was used as research for these tours. The material was also used for a book Rice co-authored, Field Guide to the Morris Canal...
