Biographical / Historical
The Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC) was established in 1969 to work for the interests of neighborhood residents. In the 55 years of its existence, it has evolved into one of Newark’s most respected institutions. It has far exceeded its stated mission to “engage and empower individuals, families, and groups in realizing their aspirations and, together, work to create a just, vibrant and sustainable community.” This collection contains items from its 55+ year history.
Many of the items in the archive — photos, correspondence, fliers, maps, and other material — were saved by longtime employee Nancy Zak. We hope not only to show the importance of the ICC’s work to the community, but also to instill in others the importance of archives and the need to preserve history.
