Biographical / Historical
Club Zanzibar was a diso nightclub opened in 1979 at 430 Broad Street. Miles Berger helped found the club, which became the most popular club in Newark. Zanzibar was also key in Newark's LGBT history, hosting a "gay night" once a week. The club existed until the early 1990s, when it rebranded and eventually closed.
Vincent Bryant served as the club photographer and has released a book "A journey through the house : photo memoirs of Club Zanzibar : house music volume 1" in 2014. His photos of the club were exhibited at City Without Walls in 2007.
Larkie Rucker was assistant manager of the club.
