Hahn / Schlacter Family Photo Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains photos from the Hahn, Schlacter, Schneider, Schreiner and Williams families, as well as several unidentified photos. They are notable as they are German families, most of whom lived in Newark, and most are taken by Newark photographers.

Biographical / Historical
Carl and Pauline (nee Kienzle) Hahn were born in Germany in the 1840s and immigrated to the United States as children. They lived in New York and had five children: Louis (m. Johannah, son Carl), Bertha, Frederick, Marie and Charles from 1870-1883. By the mid-1880s the family lived on Mulberry Street in the Ironbound section of Newark.
Marie Hahn (b. 1881) married Frederick Schlacter in Newark on March 18, 1909. They had one daughter, Marie born in 1914. Marie married Ernest Williams in 1935. They had several children: Donald, Douglas and Dorothy. By 1930, the family lived in Belleville, and they eventually moved to Flanders, NJ where Marie lived most of her life. She died on Aug 19, 2009.
It is not known how the names Schneider or Schreiner relate to the family.
