Almon W. Johnston Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of four flat boxes of black and white photographs, mostly 8" x 10" prints. A substantial number of the photographs are stamped with Johnston's name on the back. Subjects include Newark photos, photos from WNJR interviews and broadcasts, Newark Airport, military photos, sports and recreation as covered in the Newark Sunday Call, miscellaneous Associated Press photos and personal family photos, portraits and settings.

Biographical / Historical
Almon W. Johnston (1893-1983) and his wife Blanche M. Johnston née DeFeo, (1906-1970) lived at Mac Evoy Courts at 140 Roseville Avenue in Newark. Almon was born in Illinois and worked as a freelance photographer. He was a photographer with the Newark Sunday Call for 15 years as well as for Newark's WNJR radio station. Blanche was a linotype operator for the Newark Evening News and served in World War II as an Air Corps corporal.
