Maria Vizcarrondo Papers
Abstract
Maria Vizcarrondo is the first woman and Latina to become the President and CEO of the United Way of Essex and West Hudson. She became the Executive Director of ASPIRA, a community organization whose goal is to develop a younger generation of Latinos leaders. As the Essex County Coordinator for the Latinos for Clinton/Gore Organization, she was responsible for registering new voters and targeting the Latino vote in support of Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign. The Maria Vizcarrondo Papers consist of information regarding Mrs. Vizcarrondo’s community and political activism. The remarkable achievements of Mrs. Vizcarrondo were acknowledged by various awards that recognized her continuous community advocacy. The collection includes academic reports, brochures, handwritten notes, newspaper clippings, photographs, political flyers, personal awards and correspondence. Portions of this collection have been digitized.
