Abstract

Community and political activist in Jersey City. Perfecto Oyola founded the Puertorriqueños Asociados for Community Organization (PACO) in 1970, serving as its first Executive Director until 1987. Oyola was active in securing tenant’s rights, decreasing unemployment and increasing the visibility of Hispanics in local politics. The collection contains copies of newspaper clippings acknowledging his accomplishments, following his councilman campaign, and projects he supported. A poster for voter registration is included, in addition to photographs of a community training event and of landscapes in Puerto Rico.
