N.A.S.W. - Annual Program Meeting, Chicago, IL 1985; Hilda Hidalgo, 3 Section Tape (0:00 - 11:64); Award Comments; Personal Comments (13:06), 1985

 Item — Box: OV_SZ 2

Scope and Contents

Hilda Hidalgo suffered a broken leg and was unable to attend the National Association of Social Workers convention in Chicago, Illinois. In her address, Dr. Hidalgo advocated for the legal recognition of a homosexual primary family unit. She argued that legal recognition would translate into national institutional changes that would discourage homophobic practices. Dr. Hidalgo thanked the N.A.S.W. for her award in recognition of her work on behalf of the gay and lesbian community. During the first Jane Addams Banquet for Gay and Lesbian Social Workers, the association did not have an award to formally recognize the advocacy efforts of its members. After three years, the award was approved and Dr. Hidalgo was one of the first people to receive the award. She also personally thanked the people who helped with the technical aspects of the video and contributors to the publication of the N.A.S.W. Lesbian and Gay Issues Resource Manual.
