Scope and Contents

This project of historical images mapped with current images gives a useful view of how the city has changed over 100 years. The 167 images include buildings (including industry, schools and hospitals) and street scenes.

Biographical / Historical

Myles Zhang (b. 1996) is a Newark native who is currently (as of 2023) a PhD student at the University of Michigan: Ann Arbor. His PhD research will examine the history of suburban sprawl with a particular focus on the New York region, Detroit, and other cities in the American Northeast.

Previously Myles recieved a Masters of Philosophy in Architecture and Urban Studies at Cambridge and a Bachelor's in History and Theory of Architecture from Columbia University.

This project was done during Newark's 350th anniversary year in 2016, while Myles was at Columbia.
