Postcard Collection

Overview A collection of cards, mostly from Europe and the United States. Many vintage cards were collected beginning in 1900 to form a historic record. A Hollinger box of Information Files accompanies the collection.

Schlesinger Collection of Theatre History

Overview The collection consists of autographed theatrical photographs which once decorated the lobby and corridors of the Broad Street Theatre (Newark, NJ). After the theater became a movie house, Morris Schlesinger donated the collection to the Library. Additional photographs were later added to this collection.

Shopping Bag Collection

Overview This special collection was founded in 1970 due to tremendous popular public interest in shopping bags in the 1960s. Shopping bags are frequently referred to as “portable art.” They originate from leading commercial firms, shopping malls, deluxe retail stores, and all sorts of merchandising outlets in the United States, and from stores all over the world. The collection contains over 2,000 bags.

World War I Poster Collection

Overview A collection of approximately 150 posters. In 2017, guest curator George Robb organized an exhibit of selected posters entitled “Over Here: Newark in World War I, 1917-1918.” Selected posters subsequently were loaned to William Paterson University. Catalogues were produced to accompany each exhibition.
