Abstract
Blanca Álvarez Blanco (1899-1952) was born in Utuado, P.R. She studied at the University of Puerto Rico from 1914 – 1916 and worked as a teacher and editor until she moved to Jersey City, NJ in 1933 when she married Dr. José Hernández Gutiérrez. She gave birth to their only child, José, in 1935, and with a scholarship, earned an M.A. at Columbia University Teachers College in 1936.
