Abstract

Jose Villalongo, Sr. was a founding member of Comité Noviembre of New Jersey and of Sociedad Cultural Borincana, Inc. of Paterson, NJ. The Comite Noviembre is a non-profit independent organization whose mission is to promote awareness of the social, cultural, economic and political contributions of the Puerto Rican community to the nation. The Sociedad Cultural Borincana is also non-profit organization focused on raising awareness of Puerto Rican contributions; additionally, it annually funds and awards the Adela M. Coca Scholarship and conducts non-partisan voter registration drives. This collection documents the founding and administration of these organizations, as well as containing newspaper clippings and other periodicals relating to the Puerto Rican community. The collection sheds light on the arts and culture, family and community life, and organizations and leaders of New Jersey, particularly those of Paterson.
