John Ripton Papers
Abstract
John Ripton was a community organizer whose primary concern was the Hispanic farm workers of New Jersey. The collection includes correspondence, John Ripton’s writings, notes, and requests for grants to raise awareness of the issues surrounding pesticide use on farms and its negative effects on farm workers. The collection also includes senate bills, newspaper articles, press releases (including press releases from the ACLU), reports from the Department of Agriculture and other entities. Several organizations like Sa-Lantic, Comite de Apoyo a los Trabajadores Agricolas, and the NJ Council of Churches are represented in these papers. Briefs, public hearings in regards to legislative measures, and minutes to meetings document the work the above organizations performed on behalf of farm workers.
