HISPA Records
Abstract
HISPA was established in 1984 as the Hispanic Association of AT&T Employees, providing community outreach programs for Hispanic/ Latino communities throughout the United States. In 2004 and 2005, the organization’s bylaws were modified to better reflect its diverse membership by making “HISPA” the official name and allowing non-AT&T members’ full participation in the organization. By spring 2007, the HISPA Governing Council unanimously voted to recast HISPA as a new organization with an updated mission and name: Hispanics Inspiring Students’ Performance and Achievement. HISPA’s main educational initiatives consist of a role model program focused on middle school students and a youth conference program. The HISPA Records consists of the materials documenting the AT&T Latino employee affinity group. The collection consists of financial records, letters, minutes, reports, flyers/ brochures, programs and oversized items such as floppy disks, photographs, VHS and Betacam cassette tapes, small video cassettes, and souvenirs, such as a hat bag and pin. The subjects documented are organizations and leaders, health and community welfare, occupation & labor, employment/ unemployment.
