Students and Faculty (6 of 6), 1990
Scope and Contents
This subseries documents the Master of Public Administration for Hispanic Administrators at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. This program was co-created by Dr. Hidalgo, Joan McEniry, and Dr. María Canino. After the success of graduating a number of Latino social workers from the Experimental MSW Program, Dr. Hidalgo and her colleagues also sought to address the dearth of Latinos who were employed in leadership roles, especially in organizations that had the capacity to serve the Latino community (“Speech at AT&T Puerto Rican Corporate Banquet, Fundraising for the MPA Program for Hispanic Administrators at Rutgers”). Like the Experimental MSW Program, the MPA for Hispanic Administrators Program operated as a separate entity, with its own budget and faculty, under the aegis of Graduate Department of Public Administration. This subseries contains initial and final drafts of the curriculum design written by Dr. Hidalgo, Dr. Canino, and Joan McEniry; Joan McEniry is listed as the only author of the draft proposal, whereas Dr. Hidalgo is first author, Dr. Canino is second author, and Joan McEniry is third author on the final submitted draft of the curriculum design. Also included in this subseries are the finalized versions of Modules 1 – 12 and the schedule of their implementation with students in the Spring semester, 1992. Newsletters from the Graduate Department of Public Administration announcing the start of the program and giving a brief description of its first cohort are also located in this subseries; brief articles about Dr. Hidalgo are also found in these newsletters. Original prints of the photographs used in the article are located in this subseries in addition to numerous pictures of Dr. Hidalgo, Dr. Canino, and their students in both classroom and recreational settings; in total, there are 112 photographs arranged by size then chronologically. For additional records regarding this program, please see the Marcos Leiderman, PhD and María Canino, EdD – Papers.
