Remembrances / Memorias of Hilda Hidalgo, 2010
Scope and Contents
After Dr. Hidalgo’s death from cancer in November 2009, her friends, former colleagues and students, and family wanted to honor her life and her achievements with a ceremony in Newark, New Jersey at the Newark Public Library. The documents in this subseries contain programs for the ceremony, planning notes written by Dr. Olga J. Wagenheim, memorial speeches given by Dr. María Canino, Dr. Asela Laguna and Dr. Olga Wagenheim at the ceremony, as well as numerous memorial messages about Dr. Hidalgo. There is a wealth of biographical information contained in the memorial messages and speeches. Press releases about the event and Dr. Hidalgo’s life are also present. There are two tri-fold posters that were displayed during the memorial service and a guest book that was signed by the attendees. A dictated farewell letter from Dr. Hidalgo to Dr. Olga Wagenheim, with an added handwritten note from her partner Dr. Cheryl Lamay, may be found in this subseries (Box 7, Folder 19).
