Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

This subseries contains four scrapbooks documenting important events in the life of Dr. Hidalgo. The “Herstory Album,” compiled by Dr. Hidalgo, is comprised of photographs from roughly 1960 to 1998 and creates a visual history of her life; of note is a picture of Dr. Hidalgo with the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico at a Girl Scout function. A scrapbook documenting her and her partner, Joan McEniry’s retirement from Rutgers contains photographs from the party and cards from their many friends and colleagues. A scrapbook commemorating Dr. Hidalgo’s 60th birthday contains individual pages created by various friends and relations, generally comprised of a written memory about that person’s relationship with Dr. Hidalgo, as well as a picture or drawing from the contributor. The page created by Nicholasa Mohr has, in addition to her personal note, an original copy of her short story about Dr. Hidalgo, “An Awakening… Summer 1956,” whose edited drafts are found in Series I, Subseries D: Writings by Others. Also found in this subseries is a collection of photograph reproductions of Dr. Hidalgo as an infant and a young girl. For preservation purposes, the photographs from the albums have been separated and housed in mylar sleeves where necessary.
