Scope and Contents
This collection contains three report cards from Barringer High School from Paul Meier.
The second item is a travel diary from Frank Meier over 40 years, starting in 1930. This is an interesting chronicle of travel of an upper-middle class family in Newark.

Biographical / Historical
Frank (24 Sept 1895, Newark - 14 Sept 1977, Belleville) and Clara Meier (b. 1900 in Poland - 1958) lived with their sons Paul (b. 24 Jul 1924 - Oct 7, 2011) and August (b. 30 Apr 1923) at 99 Second Avenue, Newark in 1930. Frank was a chemist at the Platinum Division of Engelhard Industries. By 1940, they lived at 617 Highland, and Clara also worked teaching public school. Frank retired in 1960. He was a member of the Newark Minerological Society, American Chemical Society and Association for the Advancement of Science. He also had a daughter Hannelore Balk.
Paul Meier graduated Barringer in June 1941. He became a famous statistician. Meier is known for introducing, with Edward L. Kaplan, the Kaplan–Meier estimator,a method for measuring how many patients survive a medical treatment from one duration to another, taking into account that the sampled population changes over time. He attended Oberlin and Princeton and had several teaching positions. He married Louise Goldstone and had one daughter Diane.
