Scope and Contents
The documents in this collection are legal documents related to the ownership of a house--mortgages, indentures, statements of closing title, receipts, and other documents. There are also a small number of handwritten notes from the early 20th century.
The collection includes three abstracts of title that trace the history of the house back to 1835, before Newark had incorporated as a city.

Biographical / Historical
The house at 21 Adams Street in the Ironbound section of Newark was bought and sold many times between 1835 and 1975. Mary and Thomas Kennedy sold the house to Ismael and Rosa Viera in 1975.
The Kennedys' daughter, Lea Sivilich, donated these legal documents detailing the history of the house's ownership between 1835 and 1975. Sivilich grew up in the house at 21 Adams Street.
