Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a scrapbook containing clippings of Qualen's published articles and correspondence (1930-1970s), a binder titled as "Upton 'Who's Who,'" including photographs, correspondence and bios of the individuals related to Camp Upton Service Club (where she worked during WWII), a manuscript ("Madame, are you the game keeper?"), and Van Qualen Family-Tree book (1226-1981).

Biographical / Historical

Lillian von Qualen was born on Oct 9, 1903. She was the only child of George (born in Germany) and Matilda (born in Sweden) Von Qualen. The family soon moved to East Orange. She graduated with a bachelors of Arts from Columbia. During World War II she was a hostess at Camp Upton in NY. For many years she was physical education instructor at Skidmore College in Saratoga, NY. Lillian died in East Orange in 1986.
