Scope and Contents

The collection contains material relating to ethnic and immigrant communities in Newark. The folder titles and contents are as follows: General: program for "I Am an American Day" (1947); photocopy of "Nationality and Age-Grade Surveys of the Public Schools of Newark" (1923); Senior Citizen Brotherhood Luncheon, program (1984); and Mayor's proclamation of Ukrainian Independence Day (January 22, 1976); Statistics on nationality groups in Schools 1961-1966

Germans: 50th anniversary program, in German, for the 12th Ward German-English School that includes a history of school, biographies of various officers of the school, and group photos, and advertisements (1909); 1893 birthday greeting, in German, for Herman Danielsen, president of the German-English School; program, in German, for a charity bazaar to aid "widows, orphans, and cripples in Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria," held at the Colosseum, 457-463 Springfield Avenue (1915); draft of a paper, "German Immigration to Newark, 1845-1860," by Upsala College student Gary Heard (1970); and elaborate certificates for the wedding of Helene Stum[hof?] and Otto Jaeger (1898) and the baptism of Otto Oscar Jaeger (1899); Copy of German Petition to Repeal Sabbath Laws (1853); Copy of German Petition to Repeal Sabbath Laws (1853)
