We have the entire run of the Star Ledger and its predecessor titles on microfilm from 1916-2019 and digitally after 2017. The Star Ledger has also been digitized by GenealogyBank.com and Newspapers.com and can be accessed via individual subscription. We are able to look up articles for patrons by email, please email njreference@npl.org

Earlier titles: Newark Star Ledger, Newark Star Eagle, Newark Star, Newark Evening Star. There is no known microfilm in existence of the Newark Ledger, another preceding title.

Biographical / Historical

The Newark Star Ledger was formed in 1939 when the Newark Star Eagle merged with the Newark Ledger (there is no known microfilm existing of the Newark Ledger). The paper changed its name to Star Ledger in 1964. The newspaper headquarters were moved out of Newark in 2014 andThe paper went entirely digital in Feb 2025.

The Star Ledger traces its history back to the Newark Daily Advertiser which was first published March 1, 1832. In 1907, the title was changed to the Evening Star (Newark Star/ Newark e and Newark Advertiser until 1016.
