Biographical / Historical
Ruth Link was born on Jun 3, 1903 and moved to Millington, NJ in 1908 to Gottlieb Henry Link and Lily Wenck. Her mother died in New York when she was just one year old (Oct 15, 1904, New York Tribune). She grew up with two siblings - Margaret and Harold - and her maternal grandparents. Ruth attended Millington School, Summit High School and Newark Normal School. She taught 5th grade and penmanship in New Providence.
In 1925 she accepted a position at the Newark Public Library and later went on to receieve her librarian degree. For many years Ms. Link was very active with the Girls Friendly Society and taught Sunday School classes. In the early 1940s she went back to school for her Public Library Certification.
In 1963, Ms. Link retired early from NPL to care for her ill sister Margaret who died in 1973. When Ruth retired she was Supervising Catalogue Librarian. Later, she became a charter member of service organization: All Saints FISH.
Ruth Link died Jul 27, 1986.
