This subseries consists of biographical information, mostly on Newark and New Jersey residents, including many members of the African-American community. Material types include obituaries, publications, pamphlets, papers and clippings. Obituaries and funeral programs were moved from this subseries only if a name file existed on the person elsewhere in the collection (i.e. for William Ashby see Series 2, for Alma Flagg see series 3). Material is filed alphabetically by type of material or subject. Of note, is the extensive collection of funeral programs and obituaries for African-American residents of Newark.
