 File — Box: 2, Folder: 3

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Much of this collection consists of invitations, pamphlets, and programs from events Reilly attended, which are in Box 1. Folder 1 includes Board of Trade Events (mostly banquets, also a Spanish speaking delegation to Newark in 1897). Folder 4 includes City of Newark events like Halloween parties and the 1906 city Hall opening. Folders 5 and 6 include events for specific industry groups Reilly was part of. Folder 7 includes miscellaneous events including a Governor Edwards inauguration program and two Gottfried Krueger Association programs.

There are two manuscripts in the collection. “A Historical Review of the Development and Progress of Industry in the City of Newark” (box 1, folders 8-9) became part of Vol. 1 of Urquhart’s “History of the City of Newark”. The second manuscript, “Fifty Years 1866-1918 Board of Trade of the City of Newark” (box 2, folder 1) was not published, as far as we have been able to determine.

The remainder of the collection consists of miscellaneous Board of Trade material (Box 1, folder 2), newspaper clippings (Box 1, folder 3), miscellaneous papers and correspondence (Box 2, Folder 4) and various published material that is fragile or already exists in the New Jersey Room collection. Periodicals, reports and publications include Interurban Conference material and a booklet illustrated by artist C. Chapman Durand. These are listed by item in the contents list.

The bulk of photographs kept in the collection are unidentified, as well as a duplicate of a photo of Japanese delegates at Thomas Edison’s factory, and several photos of non-NJ senators. Buttons, badges, and ribbons include the Newark 1912 Industrial Exposition, various Newark and national conferences, Victory Bond buttons and memorabilia from other various events attended Mr. Reilly.

Oversized material includes mostly photographs of various trade association meetings, as well as a further duplicate photo of the Japanese delegate at Edison’s factory.
