Donated Materials Related to Philip Roth
Materials donated to the Philip Roth Personal Library at The Newark Public Library since 2018. This smaller collection augments the Philip Roth Collection and the Joel Conarroe Collection of Philip Roth Material. Included are photographs, programs, and a donation of letters from Roth to his summer romance, Micki Ruttenberg Auerbach, when Roth was in college.
Philip Roth Collection
“My decision to locate my personal library in Newark, and specifically in the Newark Public Library, was determined by a longstanding sense of gratitude to the city where I was born in 1933.” – Philip Roth. Roth's gift of over 7,000 books is one of the largest personal collections to be donated to a public library. The bequest also includes awards given to Roth, honorary diplomas, furniture, and personal effects.
Philip Roth Exhibit Materials
This collection consists of 4 folders of copies of photographs of Philip Roth, with identifying information, and 1 folder of notes, articles, and misc. There are also several mounted photographs and 10 CDs which mostly include photos of Roth, as well as two powerpoints about Roth [CDS REMOVED TO NJIC CD DRAWER, NOT FOR PUBLIC USE].
