As a result of her efforts in her academic career and as a community organizer and activist, Dr. Hidalgo received numerous awards and degrees over the course of her life. Some are collected in this subseries. In addition to her awarded degrees, Dr. Hidalgo also received honorary degrees from other institutes of higher learning. She was honored by the City of Newark, Essex County, the State of New Jersey, and many other private and public institutions. Of particular note is Dr. Hidalgo’s appointment to President Richard M. Nixon’s Cabinet Committee for the Spanish Speaking, from which she received a proclamation signed by the President. In addition to the various awards, plaques and proclamations, this subseries also contains photographs documenting Dr. Hidalgo’s receipt of some of these awards.
