Scope and Contents

This collection contains invitations received by Charles F. Cummings and, occasionally, other librarians and community members. 2012-2015 invitations were donated by Arnold Cohen and Nancy Zak. The invitations are sorted by year, as follows:

Box 1: 1982-1985

Box 2: 1986-1988

Box 3: 1989-1991

Box 4: 1992-1993, 1995, 1996

Box 5: 1997-1998

Box 6: 1998-2000

Box 7: 2000-2002

Box 8 (half box): 2003 to Present, Undated

2012-2015 (all Newark): donated by Arnold Cohen and Nancy Zak. Organizations include La Casa De Don Pedro, UVSO (Unified Vailsburg Service Organization), LISC, St. Vincent's Academy, Aljira, YMCA, Greater Newark Conservancy, Newark Arts Council, New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, and Beth Israel Hospital.

Events include Newark and New Jersey events, including musical performances, nonprofit events, historical events, galas, etc.

Most items are invitations that were mailed (often with an address) but some are one-sheet "fliers", programs, etc.

Photocopying of materials is limited and no materials may be photocopied without permission from library staff.

Researchers wishing to publish, reproduce, or reprint materials from this collection must obtain permission.

These collections overlap in scope. Some music, theater, and election items may be in MG Nwk Broadsides or MG Nwk Invitations, for example, due to varied collection policies over the years.

Processing Information

Much of this collection was very loosely processed (one folder for each year) by staff in the 1980s and 1990s and boxing and foldering was completed in 2019. Due to the large quantity of items, items should be housed better (folders are overstuffed) when time and staff permits.
