William Pereuss Funeral Home Account Books
Scope and Contents
William Pereuss (d. 1953) and his wife Grace Hankins Pereuss (d. 1985) owned the William Pereuss Funeral Home at 722 Clinton Street, Newark until William's death. Grace Pereuss kept the accounts for the funeral home. The collection consists of three account books, which list funeral accounts chronologically. An alphabetical index at the front of each ledger lists the names of the deceased with the page number of the corresponding account. The accounts include details of funeral expenses, and an address for billing; later accounts often include a newspaper clipping of the death notice. (1919-1921 and 1935-1953).
