The topics include both standard categories and subjects that are special or unique to the period covered. For example, among the topics in Volume 2 (1946-1948, A-P) are: Adult Education, Appointments, Art, Athletics, Building Program, Censorship, Examinations, Federal Aid, Health, Insurance, Juvenile Delinquency, Intergroup Education, Magazine Ban, Newark Teachers Union, Playgrounds, and Promotion. This volume also includes a selection of obituaries, including several for Newark librarian and museum director Beatrice Winser. Volumes for the 1950s contain extensive coverage of anti-Communist investigations of Newark teachers, some of whom lost their jobs in the wake of allegations of subversive activity or beliefs. Although the volumes covering issues and events relating to the Newark Teachers Strike (1969-1971) are not present, there is some coverage in earlier volumes of union activity, civil rights issues affecting education and school construction, and other political controversies.
