Walter J. Flanigan Theater / Music Notices collection
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of 14 scrapbooks, some of which appear to have been compiled by Flanigan.
Two of the scrapbooks contain programs and announcement of musical performances in Newark and New York City; many of the earlier programs include annotations regarding changes in the performances or the names of friends who accompanied Flanigan to the event (1889-1917, 1939-1957)
8 scrapbooks are comprised of clippings of reviews and articles regarding concerts, recitals, operas, competitions, and other musical performances held in Newark and the surrounding suburbs. Many of the musicians and groups, such as the Oratorio Society, were Newark-based; others were from around the United States and the world (1903-1933)
4 scrapbooks contain clippings of reviews and articles regarding theater performances, including vaudeville shows, most of them held in Newark; many of the performances took place at the Broad Street and Schubert Theaters (1921-1933)
