Sara Abbie Fawcett (1846-1889), teacher, vice- principal of Webster Street School, Supervisor of Drawing in the Newark public schools, founder of Fawcett Drawing Academy, which eventually became the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art: diary containing critical notes on reading, extracts, notes on books purchased or received as gifts, and a list of books annotated "N.P.L." (1890s); letter from SAF to "Emily" (1893); 2 certificates from the House of Prayer Episcopal Church (1846 and 1881); and copy of a memoir of SAF by Edith Brander

Frederick William Ricord (b. 1819) member Newark Board of Education, State Superintendent of Public Schools, Sheriff of Essex County, Mayor of Newark, Judge: diaries of FWR (1857-1859), with very vivid and detailed accounts of family life, weather, health matters, civic affairs, leisure pursuits, museum and library matters, holidays, his aquariums, church matters, the execution of a murderer in 1859, and some comment on politics; "Board of Education: The Negro Question Defeated," on a proposal to integrate African-Americans into the public schools of the city, photocopy from the Newark Daily Advertiser; Essex County election results, 1865, photocopy of clipping. NOTE: The condition of some pages of the Ricord diaries is extremely fragile; consult staff for access.
