Libraries for the People, 1964
Scope and Contents
Programs, invitations, histories, directories and letters relating to various libraries and library associations in New Jersey (1938-2003).
Series 1 contains NJLA items in two subseries.
Subseries 1 "General" includes directories, conference programs, handbooks, annual reports, brochures, etc. Of note are several brochures on library aid such as "Do Not Have and Cannot Borrow" (1957). In the conferences file is a letter from Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson welcoming delegates to the spring conference of the New Jersey Library Association (1974),
Subseries 2 contains reports of the NJLA Development Committee: "Library Service for the People of New Jersey" (1952-1954), "Libraries for the People" and misc other reports and studies.
Series 2 contains other library items. The first folder is from a 1954-1956 study of the Commission to Study Library in NJ and includes testimony from NJLA Representatives as well as the final report Better Libraries For New Jersey. The second folder contains reports on Essex County libraries: "The Public's Attitude toward Public Library Services in Essex County, New Jersey," 1969 and Municipal Library Study Commission of West Essex, 1968. Folder 3 contains items from other library groups: the Trustees Association, School Library Association and ASIS&T. Folder 4 contains items and brochures from specific NJ libraries. Folder 5 contains: "Suggested Recommendations for Interlibrary Cooperation in the State of New Jersey," Prepared for the Public and School Library Services Bureau, Division of the State Library, State Department of Education, Trenton, New Jersey, by Joseph Eisner, 1968.
