Notes and Notebooks

 Series

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The first series contains reports that were either unbound or too small to catalog as books. These reports are from various agencies including the planning department and Port Authority. Of note is a 1971 report on Inner City Playgrounds in Newark, as well as a report on walkable communities from 2006 (Newark), and another (statewide) on bicycles and pedestrians from 1995.

The second series consists of items related to specific proposals, projects and buildings. The first three folders in this series (Box 1, 10-12) are Newark buildings, and there is also S Klein and Prudential arena material later in the series. There is an especially large amount of material on 50-60 Columbia Street (Richardson Lofts). Also of interest are several transportation proposals: one for minibuses and one for a transportation app: Mobotran. Many of the projects are outside Newark, perphaps material was collected in service of a project in Newark.

Series 3, consists of some miscellaneous notes by O'Neill as well as three notebooks of former planning director Mark Barksdale from 2007-2009 which may be of interest to researchers of urban planning processes.

Series 4 consists of valuations and financial information on four surgical centers in the suburbs of Newark.

Series 5 consists of printed articles that O'Neill used for his work.

Series 6 consists of miscellaneous other material. Some notable files are an OPRA request for information on the Sharpe James case, some property lists from the Kent/Brenner area of Newark, an NHA application, and some information on the Jewish National Fund and a tree planting they conducted with Newark students.
